Searching for an alternative to red goo, meat and rice this author enquired with some Chinese friends (who just finished cooking a Chinese meal at the author's house) where one can get real Chinese food in Beirut. Little China was the immediate answer.
This little restaurant is run by a Chinese family. The interior design is what you would expect and have seen in numerous movies, it is that cliché. Coming in you are greeted by a little waving doll, the interior is dominant red and brown wooden screens, the wooden chairs covered in golden cloth. In the corner a TV runs CCTV at low volume keeping the staff abreast of the latest news in the Middle Kingdom.
The only seemingly grumpy waiter is efficiently paired with a fast kitchen staff to have your orders on the table in no time (that is if not all the guest come at the same time). The Dim Sum, Spring Rolls or fried Wan tan will reach your table only briefly before the Beef with Cashew nuts, the Sweet Sour fish, or the whole Peking Duck and the variety of Salads. And if you are lucky even the desert will make it on the table with starters and main dishes to round of the Chinese food experience.
The drinks menu is rather sparse but cheap. The prices for the food are great so that value for money Little China turns out to be a real little gem.
