Chill hang-out place by day meets intimate lounge bar by night; DePrague has it all.
Located in Makdessi Street just a few steps from the hustle and bustle of the bars at the Courtyard, De Prague stands in stark contrast to the fast-pace of its neighbors. Anything but fussy, De Prague offers a soothing respite to those in search of a little ambiance, music easy on the ears and waiters who are more friends than staff.
The characteristic nonchalant vibe is further reflected in everything from their table set up – tiny tables and chairs scattered in no particular symmetry-to their Facebook page, which describes the place as “always open” with no particular opening hours listed. While the small seats may be uncomfortable to some, the central bar offers a good alternative. Their simple hand-written menu offers a wide selection of tasty burgers, salads, sandwiches and less traditional fare such as Brie au four (Baked brie cheese served with oregano and toast). Portions are generous and good value for money. The key to understanding and enjoying De Prague to is to surrender to the atmosphere and accept it as is, as a true friend would. Take time to linger on the artwork adorning the walls; maybe browse the latest artistic happenings in town in the many pamphlets posted by the doors.
Next time you feel like escaping the craziness of Beirut- let’s face it can get pretty crazy- De Prague may just be there to save you.
