A staple in the bar scene of Beirut, Main street’s loyal following has followed this bar’s trajectory from Hamra to Downtown for its exceptional atmosphere and excellent menu.
One of the first places to open in Makdessi street Hamra, Main street remains a staple in the bar scene of Beirut. Famous for its excellent bar food and cocktails, the place is almost always packed with an energetic crowd, be it for their half-off happy hour from 5-8pm to their regular hours that extend well into the early morning. Main street is one of those places that seem to never close; open 7 days a week with a daily live DJ spinning tunes to suit an abashedly commercial taste. Expect to rock to the latest musical chart toppers; no jazz or soul music here. Such is the popularity of the place that a second branch opened in Downtown’s Uruguay Street, another partygoer hub in Beirut. The rich international menu featuring a diverse selection of appetizers, salads, sandwiches and main dishes offsets the minimalistic wooden décor characterized by simple table set-ups, the infamous green and-white street sign indicating its location and new-york city apartment-like brick walls. Vegetarian and light fares are available though you may want to try their mini burgers and excellent salmon salad. Count on friendly efficient service in spite of perennial crowds. Reservations are recommended for late evening hours to avoid the all-too familiar “We are fully booked Monsieur/Madame”. Consider yourself warned.
