Cafe and bar, some of the fastest internet in Hamra
DePrauge is a laid back cafe in the day time and something of a club at night. This place is a Hamra establishment; one of those spots you will find regulars (that masters student still seated at the same table writing her thesis a year later, the film director interviewing DOPs, the startup company that doesn't have an office yet) possibly because it is renowned to have some of the fastest internet in hamra (it really does).
While DePrauge is mostly frequented by 20, 30 or 40 something's, you will find the occasional college students doing problem sets, and a bit of an older, classy crowd at night (though some of these have now migrated down the street to the new establishments in the Main Street corner). But for many reasons reason this place retains its classy reputation
Drinks are mid priced, as are their mix of Lebanese fusion entrees, salads, and sandwiches. But it's worth it as the food is great, an eclectic mix of french bar food, latin fusion and Lebanese (we recommend the sliders, (19,000 LBP), quesadillas, or the spinach and rice for a veggie option, (17,500)).
If you are coming to work, make sure you arrive before 8pm when the internet is turned off, lights are dimmed, and the place transforms into more of a bar with a club feel (although dancing is rare). When it’s warm enough, the front windows are open and the party spills onto the street, where you can still hear the techno-y music, and join smokers out front who deliberately aren’t dancing to the booming music. Just don’t ask anyone what the name means.
