Fine dining in the heart of Hamra, excellent catering
Socrates is a classy but laid back establishment conveniently located near to AUB and off Bliss Street, where you are as likely to run into your grandmother out on a luncheon, as you are to see your little cousin picking up take out - we mean, this place attracts all generations.
Socrates mezze is delicious, and the regular luncheon specials are generous. This is also a great place to go when you are craving more ambitious Lebanese dishes, and your favorite culinary relative or friend is busy or traveling. Plat du jour options regularly include a carefully prepared and artfully flavored Stuffed Kousa, Laban Immu, Kibbe b Laban, Shishbarak, and Siyadiyet Samak to rival even your great aunt’s most time consuming specialities (sorry, Khaltu Lili). These range between 16,000-20,000LL. And don’t forget dessert! A regular menu of French, Lebanese pastries, puddings and tartes is spiced up weekly with the chef’s specials (from Pistacho Mafroukeh to Blueberry cheesecake).
The atmosphere is quiet, calm, and impeccable - think white table clothes topped with vases overflowing with flowers, accompanied by lowkey Arabic music. Appetizers arrive served in cocktail glasses, and even the presentation of mezze somehow looks more beautiful and appetizing than usual. The waiters also recall a far-gone Beirut, where waiting tables was a learned art.
Socrate also offer an extensive catering service that can accommodate your most ambitious private events and parties. Regular delivery and carryout are also available.
