Honey I shrunk the sandwiches! A quirky place that serves miniature sandwiches and other mini-bites for maxi-effect.
In the heart of student territory, in a street facing the American University of Beirut main gate, a small diner with a new concept sprouted in 2014. The place is called Minis and it serves….you guessed it.. miniature food. Its vibrant red entrance is not easily missed and beckons a visit. There in the middle of the red and yellow space is an ironically gigantic red London bus. While its presence may be puzzling at first, you soon realize the single-decker look-alike perfectly fits with the quirky character of the place and unquestionably becomes the star item there. That is until you taste their sandwiches. Minis offers over 59 kinds of mini sandwiches (about 10-12cm bread roll), all freshly baked in-house with generous and varied fillings. These include vegetarian, meat, chicken, fish and sweet sandwiches. They even serve a “light” fare for those counting calories (the calorie count is listed on the menu, which is a first for Lebanon). The element of fun is enhanced by a vintage bell that signals your order is complete while the staff will happily serve you soft drinks in mini cans to complement your mini dining experience. Expect a self-service casual dining experience where the food can take slightly longer-than-average to prepare but where the outcome will absolutely be worth the wait and your bucks. These are some of highest value-for-money sandwiches you will find in Beirut; and they can come right to your door as Minis delivers. Be warned: a bite usually leads to another…and another.
