The cupcake craze took over Lebanon a few years ago with several cupcake shops sprouting across Beirut. The Cupcakery, in the heart of Hamra, is one that continues to distinguish itself from through innovative flavors, extensive variety and beautiful designs. What started-out as a home-based bakery is now a full-fledged business inspired by London recipes and customized to the Lebanese market. Open since 2010, the shop offers over 20 cupcake flavors –with new items rolled out regularly- including Oreo cheesecake, banana caramel fudge, toffee caramel, peanut butter and more. In addition to cupcakes, they have a big selection of desserts to satisfy any sweet tooth, including cake slices, pops, layered cakes, cookies, mini and giant cupcakes as well as the recently introduced cake cups. Each concoction is freshly baked with no added preservatives and is a colorful sight for sore eyes. When you are done admiring it, be prepared for a blast of sweetness that balances perfectly with the moistness of the core and finish off with their decadent frosting. Their chewy cookies are ones to try as well. If you prefer not to be tempted by the shop’s appetizing selection (trust us you’ll be hard pressed to stick to your diet mantra), you can place your order by phone and they will deliver the goodies straight to your door. That said, their shop is a must-see. A magical world of blue pastels that will make you feel like you’re Alice in Wonderland. The soothing colors, the cake displays and the always-welcoming staff will almost convince you all sweet sins will be forgiven.
