Classic Sea-Front Cafe and Garden
We love Rawda for a calm place to have an afternoon coffee, argelieh or juice when you just need to get away from the city but can't actually leave. Rawda has been open since our grandparents were hipsters, and is famous for being a hang out for artists and cultural producers since its humble beginnings as a family cafe.
Rawda is particularly memorable for its sea-front location, tucked away near the entrance to Sporting club, and perched far out towards the shore, Rawda overlooks the Raoucheh rock from the northern point. A lush year round garden is kept up in the cafe’s expansive, retro grounds. This makes it the perfect location to read a book, or catch up with a friend, in a serene atmosphere that feels far from the rushed Beirut lifestyle. Waiters are dressed formally in traditional Arabic atire which does not give the place a stuffy feel. On the contrary, lounging with a book at Rawda, one has the sense that she has transported back to a calmer, more simple time in Beirut’s history. There is even a playground, if you come with children.
Rawda serves an extensive selection of fresh juices (ranging from 5,000LL to 8,500LL), delicious Arabic coffee, as well as a full selection of Arabic Food. Mezze ranges between 5,000LL and 10,000LL and is delicious and Mashawi (grilled meats) start at 13,00LL. Platters of fresh local fish are also served (from 50,000LL a kilo). Reasonably priced sandwiches, and delicious Saj Manaaish and Pizzas are also available. Unsurprisingly, Rawda is a favorite location for argelieh, which is available in a variety of flavors for around 12,000LL.
