Tannourine el Faouqa to Aaqoura - 18.8 Km North to South Ascent 1271 m | Descent 1260 m - Very Difficult
Trail Description
This section of the LMT begins in the central square of Tannourine el Faouqa and heads south onto the high plateau that parallels the main range of the Lebanon mountains. The trail is mostly on footpaths. It passes the famous sinkhole of Baatara (بالوع بعتاره ). Other main highlights are two large stone water reservoirs; the ruins of Saydet Zwiela (سيدة زويلا ), the plains of Marj Rima (مرج ريما ) and the Tim Rtiba mountain (تم رتيبة ). Though covered in snow for much of the winter, this area is still accessible for those with proper equipment, including snowshoes and cross-country skis. A 3-km dirt road in Marj Rima plain is bike friendly. You may find many springs on this section.
