December.. A holy month!
Every December, the historical churches of Beirut become a place to enjoy the concerts of Beirut Chants, the festival of classic, sacred and ethnic music. Beirut Chants acts as a platform for local and international performers and orchestras, and spreads a message of peace, hope and tolerance among people from different backgrounds.
Day 19 program:
Abeer Nehme: she is a renowned International Crossover Singer. Throughout the years, Abeer acquired knowledge in musicology and the theories of Arabic, Western and Religious music (Aramaic) to reach very advanced levels. She is known for her exquisite talents in performing different music styles with great ease and professionalism. She performs Arabic Traditional Tarab, traditional Middle Eastern folks, Arabo Andalusian songs, Ancient Syriac and Maronite chants, Opera, and Western Music. She sings in more than fourteen different languages.
In 2012, she embarked on a new TV project entitled “Ethnofolia” موسيقى الشعوب Mousika Al Chou’oub which is as documentary created, prepared and presented by Abeer herself and produced by Al Mayadeen TV. This documentary is the first of its kind in the world where Abeer travels worldwide on the search for the roots and origins of folk and ethnic music. The first season is now airing on Al Mayadeen TV and the second season is underway.
Abeer received numerous honor certificates and awards amongst which The Academic Award of the Lebanese Diva Wadih Safi, The Honor Award from the Apostoliki Diakonia – Greece, and The Arab Radios Union Golden Award and the Murex d’Or of the Distinguished Voice and Interpretation in the Arab World.
