Fantastic Armenian-Lebanese Cuisine have earned this restaurant a deservedly good reputation.
Great food at a more than fair price, Al Mayass is a restaurant for all occasions. Situated in Trabaud street in the middle of Ashrafieh this fine eatery has been around for decades. The old Lebanese house hides a comfortable Mediterranean interior. The cosy wooden furniture and interior design provide an atmosphere that one would expect in Greece, Spain or Italy.
The food though is decidedly middle eastern combining Lebanese and Armenian specialties. Mezze, fine beurek (cheese and parsely), the obligatory Manteh (little meat dumplings, alternatively in white yoghurt or red sauce / or both, lavishly garnished with spices) or one of the all time Armenian favorites of kafta in hot cherry sauce make the this an excellent dining experience.
As is the case with Armenian and Lebanese dining there is usually more delicious items than once can try in a single evening. If you come for a romantic dinner you are sure to come back to try the rest. Coming in larger groups has the added advantage that one can work the way through the menu, for those inclined to get the most out of the dishes on offer (and even then you will want to come back).
The cosy atmosphere is enhanced by an old Mandolin (or some such instrument) player that has a cheesy repertoire. Happy to play songs of your choice his entertainment will only contribute to make your evening even more memorable.
Not surprisingly then, you are advised to book a couple of days in advance.
